Big Four Bridge catches fire
Louisville along with some Jeffersonville firefighters were called out a little after noon today to assist in a fire which had broken out on the Big Four Bridge. A boat down below was able to put out the flames. This is the fourth time the bridge has caught fire since the 1970's. Fire officials believe the fire to be electrical. The bridge is to be part of the Greenway Project, which will provide a walkway from Terrace Lawn to the Kennedy Bridge in Jeff.
Local election results are announced
The Indiana Primary is in the books, and the matchups are set for the November election. In Clark County, incumbent Commissioner Ed Meyer won the District One Democratic nomination by a pretty wide margin. He'll face republican Monty Snelling in November. In the 2nd district Democrat Leslie Young will face off against Jack Coffman Senior. In the race for Superior Court Two Judge Jerry Jacobi picked up the Democratic nomination by about four thousand votes. In Floyd County, Superior Court One Judge Susan Orth defeated the challenger Michael McDaniel. The race for the new Superior Three position was an interesting one, but real estate agent Maria Granger gained the Democratic nomination. Leslie Knable over Greg Balmer in the Democratic coroner race was the big upset of the night.
9th district race for November is set
After last night's primary, the 9th District Congressional Race will provide some familiar faces. Current Congressman Baron Hill beat his three democratic competitors by a pretty large margin. Hill will be trying for a fifth term. Republican Mike Sodrel was unopposed. The two will face off for the fourth straight year. Libertarian Eric Schansberg will also be on the ballot, making his second bid at the 9th District seat. The 9th District Congressional race is one of the most hotly contested races in the country.
